Friends, one of the cool things about doing YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, this newsletter etc, is that my awesome viewers always send me great tips.
In this case, when we arrived in Las Vegas for the first time, we were equipped with the knowledge that most locals do not go to The Strip. They go to ‘old’ Vegas, which is Freemont Street.
So I followed that advice, and here were my first impressions (best watched on the Youtube app on your Smart TV - just search ‘shaunvlog’.
Another one of the cool things we did in the area was to visit the Neon Museum.
Las Vegas doesn’t really do “subtle,” and the Neon Museum is proof. Spread over a couple of acres (and fronted by a giant seashell-shaped motel lobby), it’s basically a retirement home for signs that once screamed at tourists to gamble, drink, or watch tigers jump through hoops. At night, some still flicker back to life, while others get digital CPR via light shows.
You’ll stroll past the Stardust and Riviera signs, the giant Treasure Island skull, and even a Siegfried & Roy statue with their pet tiger. It’s kitsch, chaotic, and oddly touching - like Vegas itself, only without the hangover.
We had a great time, but one thing is starting to stand out to me about my travels.
They are a bit lonely.
Not really lonely, as I’m there with my wife and we enjoy each other’s company. Rather, what I mean is we kind of just hit the road and try to figure things out ourselves, meaning we miss so many details.
So in future, I want YOUR help.
I’ve just published a new video where I’m sharing my upcoming travel schedule - and I’d love your help in getting to know places. Local perspectives from local people.
Check it out, and comment over there if you’d be up for meeting:
