Arriving in Seattle, we were immediately referring to the ‘needle tower thing’ that dominates the city skyline. In fact, the Space Needle (it’s real name) is not only a popular tourist attraction, but a monument that holds real historical significance for the city.
When the World’s Fair rocked up in Seattle in 1962 with the theme of looking towards the 21st century, a centre-piece was needed. Long story short, the Space Needle was born - with a viewing platform 160 metres off the ground, offering visitors stunning views of the whole city and beyond and promising a future of high-technology and space-age advances.
Here’s the thing: I am not fond of heights. I am ok with planes, but being up high on a building terrifies me. I would generally never do things like this, but since arriving in America I feel inspired to do things I usually wouldn’t - continually swept along in a wave of positivity that I find around every corner here. And so, I did it. I went up the Space Needle. And I filmed a YouTube vlog all about the experience, which you can watch below:
Seattle has been a blast, but my road trip moves on. You can watch this playlist of my videos from the city, but as a reminder of my trip schedule (and how my videos will flow), it is: NYC>Portland>Seattle>Crater Lake>San Francisco>Los Angeles>San Antonio>Houston>Chicago>NYC.
In real life, I am well ahead of my video-posting schedule. In fact, I’ve even already been to Chicago and visited fellow YouTube sensation Laurence Brown of Lost in the Pond fame. I very much enjoy his videos, and it was a privilege to spend time with Laurence and his wife Tarah in the windy city. I’ll be posting a couple of behind the scenes videos from there in future, but in the meantime, here’s a video in which he interviewed me about my trip on his channel:
Speak soon,
Shaun
Bully for you Shaun! So glad you took the ride to the top and saw the sights! I'm from America and have never been to Seattle, WA, much less the Space Needle, but now can't wait to visit it! Following your trip means the world to Ed and I, we've now got the Covid and are literally stuck inside, so you and Teka traveling is giving us a great vacation experience despite being stuck at home. You can believe I'm sharing this!!
