I first started speaking to Rocky from USA Kilts in the summer of last year. He, and the rest of the team at USA Kilts, make great content linking America and Scottish / Celtic cultures, and we’d both crossed paths on internet algorithms that suggested our content to each other.
Surely, a match made in digital heaven.
There was an obvious connection: we both had an audience of people from the US who enjoyed Scottish culture, so we began putting some ideas together for a collaboration. A video done together over Zoom was an easy option, but also a boring one. We decided to go big!
My new American Adventure
We arranged for me to travel over to USA Kilts headquarters, which is in Spring City, not far from Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, so I could meet the team and create some content. This would also give me the opportunity to spend some time exploring Philadelphia, where I’d never been before, and see Washington DC properly.
But I needed a new kilt. The ones I own have long-since been too small for my expanding waistline. Rocky asked if I fancied trying his new design, the American Dream tartan. It looked amazing, and I loved the story behind it.
Watch the video below, with me collecting my new kilt in America:
Rocky and team love America, but hate the devisions that have appeared in recent years. They created American Dream to allow people from all walks of life to enjoy a stunning tartan that is also a symbol of unity, and pursuit of the improvement of self and society in a land of opportunity for all.
The USA Kilts shop is an amazing place - and you may be surprised, as it is also much more impressive than the kilt places I’ve been to in Edinburgh. I also loved seeing the hand craftsmanship behind the kilt production team, while their media studio is better equipped than many organisations with far larger marketing departments.
I was also amazed by the whole culture surrounding kilts in the US. Rocky’s business, and clients, are serious about this - and it was incredible to to see people from another country, thousands of miles away, taking Scottish culture way more seriously than we often do in Scotland.
USA Kilts delivers all over the US and internationally. You can learn more about the American Dream tartan on their website and find out more about USA Kilts here.
Exploring Washington DC and Philadelphia
So that was day 1 of a new adventure in America. From there, I’m taking my kilt and wearing it as much as possible in Washington and Philadelphia. For example, watch below as I walk around the famous DC monuments wearing my new kilt.
The whole series is being shared in this series on my YouTube channel. Our first stop was Washington DC:
Follow along on YouTube as I take in the sights, while in future videos Rocky will be joining in as a special guest to show me around Philadelphia, and taking me to watch one of his favourite sporting teams.
The series will be over 10 videos long, and new videos will be released each week on Sunday evenings. USA Kilts makes awesome content as well on YouTube (and other social media platforms), and we also did a collab video over on their channel.
Have you ever been to the areas I’m visiting in this mini series? I’d love to know.
