The west coast of America provided some amazing experiences for my wife and I, allowing us to tick off some bucket-list adventures. We departed, however, feeling that there was a LOT we didn’t see, and so will be returning one day, not least to visit a city that we were unable to see at all during this trip and that everyone said we need to go (San Diego).
My final two videos from California are now live (embedded below), and I’m excited to share the next chapter in my US exploration, which is Texas, and these videos will run through September, beginning from this coming Sunday.
Post-trip blues
Those who have followed my journey closely will know that I have just returned home from my latest US tour, which was the south. In short, it was an incredible experience. I have, however, had a rubbish couple of weeks since returning home. I know a lot of people reading will not understand this - because so many people not from Scotland think it of a land of unicorns and fairy tails - but I had such a fantastic time in the US that I didn’t want to come home.
Here’s a big part of the problem: in the two weeks since I flew home to Scotland, I haven’t seen blue skies or the sunshine once. I left Florida with temperatures of 30+ degrees Celcius, and have spent two weeks shivering in the Scottish ‘summer’ in temperatures that are less than half of what we had in Florida. And it will only get worse from here on out, with the nights getting shorter and the weather turning wetter and colder. This is intolerably grim in my book.
I suppose we could call it holiday blues, and the grass is always greener on the other side, but my latest US trip only strengthened my desire to figure out how to somehow secure an allusive US working visa and move over. I’m putting it out there, and will continue to work towards achieving this difficult ambition.
Here’s the latest video from my US trip, trying Pink’s hot dogs:
I have a heck of a lot of content to share with you from my US adventures, and I will endeavour to post one new vlog on my YouTube channel every Sunday (at least), and perhaps an extra bonus mid-week video on occasion as well.
Some people have asked why I haven’t posted them sooner, when, let’s face it, I was actually in Texas (for example) two months ago now. It takes a long time for me to edit the videos - usually 5-8 hours each, and with everything going on, I can’t post more frequently.
Roughly speaking, the flow of my videos will be: Texas (September/October), Chicago (October/November), New York (December), and then my southern tour videos will appear from January 2023.
I am hugely grateful to everyone for supporting my trips and that you continue following my adventures here and on YouTube. Thank you.
Merchandise relaunch
I’ve launched a new merchandise store where I’ll eventually share designs that I was inspired to create while in the US. For now, some of the items below are now available - including my Scotland beach towel.
And you can use the code SHAUNINUSA at checkout for 10% off.
What city would you move to if you got the chance to work in the US?
Come to Nebraska, if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes it'll change.
