Europe vs America
Arguments are raging over on Twitter about the two different cultures
Over on Twitter, an ongoing battle has erupted between Europeans and Americans about a range of topics, but mostly wealth.
In short, these pretty ridiculous debates centre around:
Americans who say that Europe is ‘communist’ and that’s the reason why Europeans are, on average, much poorer than Americans
Europeans who say that Americans are self-entitled, arrogant, and care only about money
While most of this chat is stupid and based on absolutely no knowledge, there are some grains of truth.
For example, on average, Americans are indeed much wealthier than Europeans and have significantly greater spending power. On the other hand, Europeans tend to have a happier, healthier lifestyle across a wider section of society.
The 2026 World Cup has taken these arguments to the another stratosphere, and it has involved Scottish people.
Europeans, including Scots, are outraged at the insanely high prices of the 2026 World Cup, with many giving up their dreams of attending due to the unaffordable prices of the whole thing. To be honest, I am at a crossroads and may have to concede defeat on this as well.
This will undoubtedly be the most expensive World Cup of all time, all things considered.
To these complaints, many Americans on Twitter have shrugged their shoulders and said… “that’s the price we are willing to pay to watch sports in America. Be less poor.”
The thing is, when it comes to international football (World Cup), you don’t support a team based on your favorite color. You support a team because you were born there, have some kind of affinity with the country, and are passionate about them.
With many of the ‘real’ fans now priced out only to be replaced by wealthy Americans who don’t really care, many are saying this could also be the most boring World Cup of all time.
A lot of the anger is misplaced. It’s FIFA that set the prices, and they are setting them in order for maximum profit that can be extracted from the local wealthy population.
All of this is to say, who knows what will happen next year, but I have an idea…
RVing through America?
It’s looking like hotels and flights in America are going to be among the biggest expenses. So I’ve been thinking…
What if I can get hold of an RV, use it to sleep in, and also travel between Boston and Miami. So I want to ask you, my audience, if it’s something you would recommend in America?
Do you have an RV, or have you rented one? What should I look out for? Have you done a big distance RV trip like this? Do you have your own RV / RV rental I could get involved with? 👀
I’d love to know your thoughts on whether or not this could be a valid option.
Florida’s Best Beaches
I have just released a new vlog from the coastline around Anna Maria Island, which is a strip of land out to sea between Sarasota and Tampa. It’s an incredibly beautiful place, and the beaches are absolutely superb.
One thing struck me as we arrived. Everywhere we looked, we saw “Gulf of America” staring at us. It was on signs, on posters in shops and on T Shirts, and on Google Maps. I remember that America’s current President changed it, but didn’t know the locals would make such a big deal out of it. Interesting. I wonder if it will be changed back in time.
I don’t really have an interest in the politics of it all, but it’s true to say that it’s among the most beautiful coastlines I’ve ever seen for beaches.
Check out my latest vlog on this below and we’ll chat soon.

Americans aren’t shy about spouting off about things if which they know shit all. So there’s that. The level of belligerent, entrenched ignorance and outright stupidity exhibited by MAGA is deeply troubling and depressing.
Re the cost of the World Cup. Probably most Americans can’t afford it either altho fewer of them are quite as invested. But I would say that most Americans are on some spectrum that I would describe as “the working poor” to the nose above water strivers. In short, most Americans work pretty hard and have very little to show for it. 😢 They can’t afford those prices either. Those are oligarch and oligarch-wanna-be prices.
Re the RV, it wouldn’t be for me because I hate the size of those things. I struggled once, long ago, to drive an Econoline van without ripping off the side mirrors. I’m old now and wouldn’t try it. You sre young and already adventurous enough to assay driving on the other side of the street. (That has kept me from enjoying driving in the UK when I visited because I am sure I would kill myself and/or others. Also, it could be a hassle finding hook ups (which you also have to pay for) and those things are gas hogs. Oh and, up in Massachusetts, driving those behemoths might be like driving a bus in Cornwall: a tight squeeze.
Finally, I prefer the east coast of Florida to the west coast because I like the waves.
